Stewart is an Intensive Care Specialist at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and State Medical Director of DonateLife SA. He began his career as an anaesthetist in the UK, moving to Australia 15 years ago to complete his Australian intensive care training. His clinical interests include end-of-life care and organ donation and completed a Masters of Bioethics in 2012.
Stewart is the SA representative on the ANZICS Death and Organ Donation Committee and End-of-Life Care working group. He has contributed to NHMRC documents on ethical allocation of organs and Chaired the CALHN Treatment Ethics Committee.
