ACCCN Adult Advanced Life Support Course
A full day course will cover airway management, cardiac arrhythmia’s, electrical therapy and other adult ALS skills.
An ACCCN ALS Manual and Self Learning Package will be posted to successful registrants prior to the course.
A certificate of attendance will be provided. This course does not give attendees their ALS Certification, for Australian nurses assessment will need to be arranged in their state at a later date.

Advanced Nursing Assessment and Early Interventions
Nurses are expected to respond effectively and rapidly to unpredictable clinical situations to improve patient outcomes - particularly when part of the medical emergency team. The nurse requires both clinical and interpersonal skills to function effectively as a team member during these emergencies.

BASIC Course
Basic Assessment & Support in Intensive Care Course
The BASIC course is designed to teach the practical management of critically ill patients. It consists of lectures, skill stations and interactive tutorials covering many aspects of the care of critically ill patients, with an emphasis on supportive management, particularly mechanical ventilation. Participants are expected to have read the textbook and have completed a multi choice question test prior to attending the course.
This course is suited to practitioners from all disciplines who provide care to the Intensive Care patients, but has particular application to those practitioners from smaller units, and to staff who are new to the discipline.
Staff who would benefit from the course include:

House Surgeons, Senior House Officers & Registrars in Intensive Care, Anaesthesia, General Medicine, Surgery, & Emergency Medicine

Intensive Care Nursing Staff (and nurses from other Acute Care Areas) who provide care for critically ill patients, and wish to develop advanced nursing practice.

Senior Medical Officers without vocational registration in Intensive Care Medicine, who maintain a service commitment to and an interest in Intensive Care.

ICU and Anaesthetic Technicians.
Expert Provider
A skilled expert Instructor course will also be run concurrently with the BASIC Course. Instructors would need to have an intensive care fellowship or equivalent, and be currently practicing in Intensive Care. Applications for this course should be made to ross.freebairn@xtra.co.nz

Critical Care Echo 2008
A four day course to be held in the picturesque Blue Mountains for intensivists, emergency physicians and anaesthetists. This course will suit you if you want to learn basic critical care echocardiography and/or want to further your interpretation skills.
The four day course consists of:
1. A two day Beginners Hands-on Workshop, covering practical transthoracic echo sessions: Basic 2-D views, M-mode, basic Doppler measurements, and basic interpretation of echocardiogram.
2. A two day Advanced Course covering: left ventricular systolic and diastolic function, preload assessment, haemodynamic measurements, right heart assessment, heart-lung interaction, roles of echo in sepsis, hypotension, postcardiac surgery and ARDS.
