The latest date for receipt of Abstracts is 11th July 2008. Abstracts will only be accepted if submitted electronically on the correct form and up-loaded via this website. Full instructions and the appropriate form are available here. Faxed or hard copy submissions will not be eligible.
Eligibility for free paper prizes
1) Best Medical Paper - Verbal presentations only will be considered. The primary author and presenting author must be medical. Maximum of 2 papers per presenting author is recommended.
2) Best Nursing Presentation - The Best Nursing Presentation is awarded to the Best Nursing Paper at the ANZICS/ACCCN Intensive Care ASM. Verbal presentations only, presented during the adult component of the conference, will be considered for this prize. The main author must be a nurse and present the paper. The winner receives $2500 kindly donated by Eli Lilly.
3) Matt Spence Medal - This Medal is presented at the annual ANZICS Intensive Care Scientific Meeting to Australian or New Zealand trainees. However in 2008 it is open to Intensive Care Medicine trainees who are in a dedicated formal Intensive Care Medicine training scheme in any of the countries belonging to the Asia-Pacific Association of Critical Care Medicine. Verbal presentations only will be considered and the candidate must have had major role in the design, execution, writing and presentation of the study.
4) Best Nursing Poster Prize - May be awarded to the author of a paper presented as a poster. The main author must be a nurse, The paper must be of adult, paediatric or neonatal interest. The winner receives $1,500, sponsored by ACCCN.
5) Basic Science - Awarded for the best free paper on basic science; may be medical, nursing or other author. Only awarded when suitable papers are submitted.
6) Nursing Scholarship Prize
Awarded for the best free paper based on research completed as a component of a Masters or PhD. The main author of the paper must be a nurse and present the paper. The paper may be of adult, paediatric or neonatal interest. The paper must be presented as a free paper (10-minute oral presentation followed by 5 minutes for discussion). The winner receives $2500 donated by Covidien.
7) Best Nursing Review Paper - The award for Best Nursing Review Paper is designed to acknowledge an outstanding contribution to the specialty of critical care nursing through a substantive and rigorous review of the literature. The prize is awarded annually at the Annual Australian and New Zealand Scientific Meeting on Intensive Care. The inaugural prize was awarded in 1997. The winner will be expected to present an oral form of the paper at the Conference. The winning paper will be considered for publication in ACC and will be reviewed using feedback from the judges and Editorial Committee to ensure rapid publication. The winner will be notified in time to take advantage of early bird registration. The winner receives $2,500 donated by Edwards Lifesciences.

8) Best Paediatric Medical Paper - Verbal presentations only will be considered. The primary author and presenting author must be medical.
9) Best Paediatric or Neonatal Nursing Paper - Verbal presentations only will be considered. The main author must be a nurse and present the paper. The paper must be presented as a free paper (10-minute oral pres entation followed by 5 minutes for discussion). The winner receives $2500 donated by Mayo Healthcare.
10) ANZICS-CORE Best Paper by a Young Researcher at the ASM – Open to trainees, fellows within 5 years of Fellowship, Nurses and Allied Health Workers, for the best paper making use of data from ANZICS-CORE databases (APD, CCR, ANZPIC). A prize of $1,000 is awarded to the winner (only when suitable papers are submitted); all authors receive a certificate.
11) ANZICS-CORE Best Publication in a Calendar Year – Open to all using data from ANZICS-CORE (ADP, CCR, ANZPIC). A price of $1,000 will be awarded to the winner and all authors will receive a certificate.
12) Safety and Quality Best Paper - Awarded for the best free paper on safety and quality; may be medical, nursing or other author. Only awarded when suitable papers are submitted.
13) The Intensive and Critical Care Nursing Award - Applications are invited for the Intensive and Critical Care Nursing award to support Congress attendance by a nurse from the Asia-Pacific region (excluding Australia and New Zealand). The Award is sponsored by Intensive and Critical Care Nursing (an international journal of research and practice). The Award will be judged on the basis of the scores received on abstracts submitted from the Asia-Pacific region with a nurse as the first and presenting author. A statement of no more than 150 words must also be submitted, outlining the topic of a manuscript to be prepared for publication in the journal and describing how knowledge gained through the Congress will be disseminated to local colleagues. The winner will receive registration for the Congress, four nights’ accommodation and support for an economy return airfare to Sydney.
14) The AuSPEN Bob MacMahon prize for the best oral presentation involving nutrition.
15) The AuSPEN David Russell prize for the best poster involving nutrition.
16) The IPANEMA/AuSPEN prize for the best abstract (oral presentation or poster) involving parenteral nutrition.
Any paper reporting on basic research is eligible for Free Paper Prizes. All Free papers will be judged on abstract quality, methodological merit, work involved, standard of presentation and question-handling, relevance and originality. |
